Renovated Auto Body Shop brings College of Lake County’s Auto Collision Repair program efficient home decked out with latest industry equipment

A 40-year-old pre-engineered steel facility, which once housed an Automotive Technology program, had been relegated to storage. A 13,600-square-foot gut and rehab brings new walls, systems, and amenities to create the Auto Body Shop. The project includes a complete air system, as well as all-new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

The Repair Cycle

Stations allow students to practice different parts of the repair cycle: damage analysis, estimating, disassembly, structural repair, welding, refinishing, reassembly, and detailing.

Storage

A new mezzanine floor stores auto parts and materials.

Air Collection and Delivery

A high-efficiency air filtration system absorbs particulates to bring comfort for students and faculty. Hoses hanging from the ceiling collect dust and vehicle exhaust and deliver power and compressed air.
