Oak Ridge Elementary School Media Center/Classroom Expansion
Addition and renovation featuring flagship media center supports different learning styles, builds excitement about education
Input from media specialists inspired the design of what became North Palos District 117’s flagship media center. The media center is part of a larger addition/renovation that improves safety and prepares for enrollment increases.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Glass pockets in the media center façade create light-filled reading nooks.
- “Floating walls” (i.e., windows underneath walls) bring in more light and give students a unique view of the outdoors.
- Movable tables and bookcases allow instructors to adjust the setting based on the lesson.
- 6 classrooms break into 12 smaller rooms for reading, special education, and ELL.
