José Belardo, AIA, EDAC manages multidisciplinary teams for complex healthcare projects including renovations and additions to new hospitals, outpatient care centers, and skilled nursing facilities.
He leads design meetings that gather input from many facility users such as ER and ICU directors, surgeons, nurses, radiologists, lab technicians, maintenance personnel, and food service staff. José also coordinates design teams to meet rigid code requirements and schedule constraints.
During his pre-Legat years, José was lead architect for the 208,000-square-foot Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, Illinois. It features a family care/birthing center with 16 rooms in which patients go from labor to postpartum without getting shuffled around.
José, an avid traveler, counts among his experiences backpacking and canoeing the Canadian Boundary Waters, hiking the Porcupine Mountains and the Grand Canyon, skiing the Dolomites and Lake Tahoe, snorkeling Maui, Curacao, and Costa Rica, and spending a summer month in the Philippines.
