Bad storms caused a brownout that brought down half the systems in a nonprofit organization’s network. After several late nights, Rick Roldan got the system back in order. Situations like this are all in a day’s work for Rick—since 2005, he’s been doing everything from troubleshooting computer and phone problems to managing server infrastructures and data center operations.

As a senior network administrator on Legat’s IT team, Rick assists with helpdesk queries and day-to-day network operations while splitting his time between our Chicago and Oak Brook, Illinois studios.

Rick’s intro to IT began when he worked in the accounting department of an ad agency. He befriended an IT person at the organization, asked lot of questions, and started reading books on IT networking. Rick then started doing temp office work for a job placement firm in downtown Chicago. When it decided to revamp its office and install a network, the firm put Rick in a permanent IT position. Since then, Rick has confronted many challenges, but in each case, he has resolved the issue and lived to fight another tech battle.

Near to Rick’s heart is the charity work he does through churches, shelters, and nonprofit organizations. Born and raised in Chicago, Rick enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and daughter. He also retains his childhood love of sci-fi as he continues to enjoy SF comics, shows, and movies.
