Thaïs Heintz

Interiors Associate

Thaïs Heintz, WELL AP combines her architectural education and interior design experience to help building owners with both a big picture vision and details. Having worked with people from many different cultures, she approaches all projects with an open mind. The native Parisian speaks fluent English, French, and German.

Before moving to the States, Thaïs worked with an interior architect in Paris, where she focused on residential interiors, custom millwork, and built-in furniture.

Since joining Legat, Thaïs has contributed to projects ranging from retrofits to historic restorations. She recently participated in a project that resurfaces the historic charm of an early 20th century train station while making it durable enough for 21st century traffic. Thaïs also led interior design for the conversion of a college’s early childhood space into administrative offices.

Thaïs is a historic mosaic tile enthusiast—she has worked with a specialty ceramic tile manufacturer and distributor. This experience helps her to select sustainable materials and gives her a good grasp on lead times to make sure projects finish on time. Whenever she’s in major cities, Thaïs can’t resist peeking into buildings to see their tile mosaics. She has over 500 photos of different tile arrangements!

Thaïs believes in the power of education and sustainability to impact change. As a WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP), she has expertise in the WELL Building Standard, a research-based system that focuses on the health and wellness of building users.

Around the office, Thaïs leads efforts to divert expired material samples from the landfill by donating them to local nonprofit Zero Landfill Chicago. She has taught French and mentored children at an architecture camp. She also sings in the Chicago Community Chorus.

Thaïs earned her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in architecture at the Paris-Belleville School of Architecture in Paris, France.
