Auditorium modernization takes traditional approach with a contemporary twist to energize events and boost leasing opportunities
Ross Auditorium had not had a major update since it was built in the early 1990s. Bulky Roman columns, floating acoustic panels, and a dated color scheme took attention away from the stage.
A complete makeover creates a contemporary identity that not only improves university events but also increases revenues by making the space a more attractive leasing option.
Designers capitalized on the auditorium’s biggest strengths: its windows and height. The facelift removes the bulky wood between windows and covers beige walls in bright white adding Georgian reliefs and trim. This strategy draws the eye up to the copper ceiling, where starburst chandeliers artfully contrast with the linear space.
Clean lines, minimal use of color, and warm wood paneling draw attention to the stage. Formerly visually distracting acoustic panels dangling from the ceiling now blend into walls. And the large ventilation cavities above the stage have given way to thin grills that blend into the trim.
