Derek Dunn

Regional Healthcare Director – North Chicagoland/Iowa

Derek Dunn, AIA, LEED AP BD+C has led over 200 renovations, from surgery suites and maternity units to labs and sterile processing areas, since he joined Legat in 1996.

Many of Derek’s projects require fast-paced phased construction. He works with clients to “slide the pieces around” during planning. As a result, safety is maintained, patients get their privacy, and all functions remain active during construction.

Healthcare facility operators often contact Derek to solve logistical and code issues—he has a strong relationship with the Illinois Department of Public Health—or just call him for advice even if there is not a specific project.

Derek’s healthcare portfolio also includes assessments and planning, as well as new facilities and campuses such as the Centegra Huntley Campus and the Vista Freestanding Emergency Center.

Outside the office, Derek enjoys mountain biking the local trails and working on small projects around the house. Each winter, he challenges himself to watch every Oscar-nominated film.

Derek holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
