Sana Khwaja

Associate

Whether she’s working on healthcare or educational projects, Sana Khwaja strives to represent building users’ and community members’ identity and culture through design. Sana, a member of Legat’s Columbus, Ohio studio, has participated in projects ranging from developing design charrette options to detailing a building’s exterior envelope. Recently, she served as design lead for an esports gaming center at Ohio University’s main campus in Athens.

She’s also known for her ability to perform under pressure. For instance, Sana was part of a team that completed design for a new hospital in four and a half months. Another example: when funds came up short for an elementary school addition with a month and a half before deadline, Sana and her team returned to the schematic design phase, reduced the floor plan to meet the revised budget, and finished on time . . . plus $500,000 under budget.

Sana served as a guest critic for a junior high school’s architecture and design program final review. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture from The Ohio State University.

Sana grew up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, near which her family operated a cranberry, blueberry, and ginseng farm. When she was in high school, Sana ranked 16th in Wisconsin for tennis.
