Stonewater aquatic center and clubhouse construction underway

Aquatic center and clubhouse to stand as centerpieces of nature-focused Stonewater community

Stonewater, now under construction in Wonder Lake, Illinois, offers a much different experience than the typical new home community — integrated throughout its 30 planned neighborhoods and 3,700 planned homes are winding paths, footbridges, streams, lakes, ponds, rock arrangements, and abundant vegetation. It even has an onsite nursery with more than 12,000 mature trees.

The aquatic center and clubhouse will provide a focal point and set the tone for the Stonewater community and its embrace of natural surroundings.

Rising at the heart of the community is a lakeside community center that captures Stonewater’s focus on outdoor recreation. The aquatic center and clubhouse, designed by Legat Architects and being built by Lamp Incorporated, will create a community focal point. Neuman Pools will serve as the design/build contractor for the new pool.

The first phase encompasses 10,300 square feet and is slated for completion in May 2023. It includes an aquatic center, fitness center, community room, and administrative offices. A future phase will add a multipurpose room, more offices, a grand lobby, and additional community meeting space.

Considering COVID-fueled materials shortages and the projected schedule, Legat recommended a construction manager to fast-track the project. The selection of Lamp allowed foundations and permitting to happen while Legat wrapped up drawings.

The facility’s design takes cues from the trails, trees, and other natural amenities that surround the facility.

“The exterior is inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie style,” said Legat’s Ted Haug. “The interior has a modern aesthetic while incorporating some rustic features such as stone finishes and a community room fireplace.”
