Chaddick Institute/Legat Architects Think Tank to explore post-COVID resilience

September 3, 2020 News, Wellness by Legat Architects

Registration opens for free weeklong lunchtime lecture series that investigates resiliency for healthcare, transit, educational, and sustainable design

Overcome Adversity to Thrive

2020: Healthcare providers walk on pins and needles. Airline, bus, and rail agencies wrestle with finances. Schools struggle to find a balance between in-person and remote learning. And everyone is scrambling to get back on track.

The good news is that we can bounce back. And the next time a threat surfaces, whether it’s a pandemic, natural disaster, cyberterrorism, or recession, we can be ready.

It’s time for a new playbook for growth.

DePaul University’s Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development and Legat Architects invite you to Think Tank 2020 | Resilient.

Think Tank | Resilient speakers and panelists

Weather the Storm

The Think Tank symposium will assemble authorities in the healthcare, transit, educational, and sustainability industries. Their aim: to consider how organizations can recover and evolve when the next disruption strikes.

Join us September 14 – 18, 2020 for a weeklong series of lunchtime lectures via Zoom. Each hour-long lecture starts at 12 noon CST. Register here.

Speakers during the first four days include the following:

  • Cynthia Barginere, former chief transformation officer at Rush University System for Health, reveals how design can support safety for healthcare patients and staff.
  • Terrapin Bright Green Director of Projects Catie Ryan unveils the connection between architecture and nature through the lens of biophilic design.
  • Chaddick Institute Director Dr. Joseph P. Schwieterman shares how transit agencies can become more financially resilient even as federal funding dries up.
  • Dina Sorensen, co-chair of the AIA Committee on Architecture for Education Research Subcommittee, makes a case for schools as “gardens of learning” through an ecological framework.

Friday, September 18 caps off the series with a resilience roundtable featuring three previous speakers plus Legat Director of PreK-12 Education Robin Randall. Kurt Volkman, director of corporate and commercial architecture at Legat, will moderate the roundtable.

“Although the coronavirus pandemic will undoubtedly come up, this isn’t just another COVID-19 conference,” said Justin Banda, Think Tank coordinator. “Participants will walk away with a better understanding of how to recover from the next disruption, no matter what it might be. Resilience is about recovering quickly, adapting to change, and evolving to thrive.”
