Element Moline Hotel Approaches Completion

January 26, 2018 Community, News by Legat Architects

Adaptive reuse project transforms 100-year-old landmark into stylish hotel that respects historic origins

[Moline, IL] – Construction of Element Moline, the first Illinois hotel in Marriott International’s expanding Element Hotels portfolio, is nearing completion. The hotel is slated for opening in February, 2018.

The adaptive reuse project converts the historic O’Rourke Building, a former Sears, Roebuck warehouse built in 1917, into a 96-room extended-stay hotel. The project embraces Element Hotels’ sustainable design philosophy—the National Park Service reviewed and approved every aspect of the project, including the restored Art Deco façade and entrance. Over 80,000 square feet of hotel renovation and addition complement that style.

The hotel is part of a multimodal development called The Q. It includes a train station, as well as retail components.

Element Moline marks the hotel component of The Q, a multimodal development that includes a train station with service to Chicago. The hotel renovation includes 16,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space, along with a new glass pavilion that serves as the rail station’s Grand Hall on the east side. Legat Architects is designing all components of The Q.

Mike Amin with The Amin Group (developer for The Q), said, “This mixed-use development will not only help revive Moline’s downtown, but it will also serve as a rail gateway for the entire Quad Cities region.”

Element Moline offers business guests meeting space and is near large organizations such as Deere & Company, the U.S. Department of Defense, Rock Island Arsenal, Alcoa, KONE Elevators & Escalators, United Healthcare, and Kraft Foods. It is also within walking distance of top regional attractions such as the TaxSlayer Center, John Deere Pavilion, and the Great River Trail.

Element Hotels, part of Marriott International, Inc., defies convention through its stylish and sustainable design. The brand’s longer stay comfort empowers guests to ‘Stay in their Element’ through signature amenities including its complimentary healthy RISE breakfast and RELAX evening reception, saline swimming pools, spacious fitness centers, Bikes to Borrow program, and electric vehicle charging stations. Element made history in 2008 as the only major hotel brand to pursue LEED certification for high-performance buildings brand-wide.

Element Moline guests will have plenty of dining options both within the hotel and in the larger development.
