Rapidly designed new hospital to fill mental health services gap in Central Illinois
The two-story, 100-bed Meadowview Behavioral Hospital rises as Illinois’ largest mental health inpatient treatment facility south of Chicago. It will also offer outpatient services and programs for those with substance abuse challenges.
The 64,000-square-foot facility reduces the need to transfer patients to Chicago for care related to anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and other behavioral disorders.
Three wings each house semi-private patient rooms with toilet rooms, a nurse station, a day room, a quiet activity space, and a group room. The design encourages patients to spend less time in their rooms and more time in group and activity areas. The first floor offers an outpatient area near the main entry and a dining/kitchen area.
Legat developed its floor plans from schematic design through construction documents in just five months. The firm designed US HealthVest’s Lake Behavioral Hospital in a similarly aggressive timeline. Typically, the design of a new hospital takes anywhere from 18 months to three years.
This hospital will fill a significant gap in the region’s healthcare services and provide high-quality, evidence-based treatment for those struggling with mental health issues.
